Read on the Fly

Reading Should be Fun

“Reading should not be presented to children as a chore, a duty. It should be offered as a gift.”  - Kate DiCamillo

Read On the Fly was launched in June, 2016 at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport with four bookshelves, ROtF provides free books for children ages 0-18 traveling by air in Alaska.

Speaker: Erin Kirkland, Founder, Read on the Fly

A 17-year resident of Alaska, Erin Kirkland is a fixture within the Alaska family travel and outdoor recreation sphere. She has authored two books, published the website AKontheGO.com , written a regular column in the Anchorage Daily News, and hosted Alaska-wide radio and news segments geared toward young Alaskans and her families.

Her most meaninful project, however, has been the Read On the Fly project, launched in the summer of 2016 at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, giving free books to kids traveling to, from, and around Alaska.

Erin's mantra is "Do good where you are, when you can, with what you have."
