Reminder of 2-11-17 Meeting, Being Happy

Happy Thursday to you all in the eClub world!

Or rather, as I'm writing on Monday the 6th and scheduling this to send in three days, I have high hopes and expectations of a good and satisfying Thursday.  What an amazing meeting we have coming up on Saturday!  It's going to make that Sunday football-thing seem like small potatoes.

Join us for classification talks from TWO new members, Dan Nelson and Nancy DeWitt!

AND, Pres. Elect Sharon proposing a BIG idea for an international project, One Well At A Time.

How could you miss all this??

In other exciting news, our board of Elected Officers and Chairs continues to grow in a healthy way!  The current committee chairs are updated on the website, but specifically welcoming and recognizing:

Wanda Cooksey, who will be taking the reins of Rotary Foundation Chair from Sharon (thank you, Sharon!)

Gayle Knepper, who will be the Club Administration Chair (a post that has been unfilled)

Tom Nicolos has volunteered to understudy and shadow our current Treasurer George Frushour.  Tom, we are fortunate to have your steady hand on future finances.

Nancy Dodge will be our Pres. Elect starting in July

George Frushour will continue on as Treasurer

Brian Shimek will be Secretary, without the Interim bit attached

Finally, so many reasons to be happy and "happy" this week!

Donating/speaking only for myself of course, I'm so excited about two vibrant new members (and really, Wanda and Gayle are relatively recent as well!); excited for a great international project idea from Sharon; excited that Pres. Julie is going to talk me though how to do a wine social; and most acutely now, grateful that the coffee grinder worked this morning.

As far as "happy" - I&Wife will be in Arizona with family this week/weekend and not feasibly able to call in to the meeting.  I don't think of it as a "fine" donation - more like buying an appetizer for the table to share in my absence.

-Yours in Interim Secretarial Service,

Brian

Pres. Elect Sharon's Travels and Updates

For those who have not had the opportunity to talk to our current Pres. Elect, Sharon Durtka, I will say this: remarkable and involved don't even begin to describe enough about what she is actively involved with in Wisconsin, around the US, and around the world.  Here's a snippet:

"This coming week we leave on Tuesday with four young and new staff and Board members.  We will be in DC working on Refugee Resettlement and on the International Visitors Leadership Program; I will also work with the Emerging Leaders - youth for this program. It is possible that Al [Sharon's husband] and I will be hosts for the Ambassador from Kenya for a luncheon and guests of the Jamaican Embassy on one evening. This Saturday, the 4th, is the Noon to 8 p.m. Leadership Training, and Sunday evening is the hour to help prepare us for the PETS meeting.

[Also], It was Groundhog Day but San Juan, Puerto Rico did not get up to look for a shadow on Thursday morning! Before breakfast and our meeting, Al and I combed the Balneario El Escambron, a little beach, just outside of Old San Juan. It is located in Puerta de Tierra section of town next to our hotel.  We had only about 20 minutes in the early morning sun but were able to pick up a bit of litter from those who were there the day before. Disappointed that there was no one to talk to about the Big Clean and Rotary!"

A word from the Service Chair

A quick word from the service chair -

Since day #1 in the eClub, we have been determining what Service looks like for us, spread apart as we are.  Two thoughts to consider about this:

The 5010 Big Clean project (more explanation needed for new members) demonstrated a format and way to take small acts in many places and gather them into a larger effort.  Collectively, we could say that our membership put forth ____ hours in ____# of areas towards this effort; in this case, picking up litter.

An expectation of members volunteering at any location of their choice has been considered with our club in the past. We heard from Hal Kibbe's (presentation on the State of Jefferson eClub) that members have an hours-per-quarter goal.

If you have inclinations or ideas about how you would like to see our club approach Service in the coming year, please let us know!
